Evidence label: Well studied (how tuning forks vibrate and sound; their use in bedside tests, with known accuracy limits) Evidence label: Speculative (therapeutic tuning-fork claims) “Well studied” covers the physics of the fork and the research on how accurate clinical fork tests are, including where they fall short. The Speculative label covers claims that forks…
Evidence label: Early evidence The Early evidence label covers a few small laboratory studies of breathing and circulation during music. Nothing here is a health claim. Author: Raymond Hackland · Last reviewed: 21 October 2026 · Reading time: about 8 minutes In short What this is: Music has a pulse and so does breathing. This…
Evidence label: Well studied (musical pleasure and the brain’s reward regions) Evidence label: Early evidence (dopamine’s role; chills vs tears) The first label is for the main finding: musical pleasure goes with activity in the brain’s reward regions. This has been found with several methods and in 17 brain-imaging experiments pooled in a meta-analysis, most…
Evidence label: Well studied (music listening and stress measures) Evidence label: Speculative (claims for specific tunings such as 432 Hz, 528 Hz and the Solfeggio tones) The first label is for the main finding: many randomised trials exist and have been pooled. It does not mean that every trial was good, that the effects are…
Gong, shang, jue, zhi, yu: the Chinese five tones, how classical texts link them to the Five Phases and organs, and what music research shows.
Where the Solfeggio frequencies really come from, from Guido d’Arezzo to a 1999 book, and what the few small studies on 528 Hz actually tested.
Why concert pitch is 440 Hz, what Verdi really said about 432 Hz, and what the few small studies on 432 Hz music actually found. An honest look.
